Dans mon article \u00ab\u00a0les 10 id\u00e9es re\u00e7ues sur les gros-s-es\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> je vous proposais une galerie photo de mannequins grande taille. J’aime immens\u00e9ment cette galerie. Pour autant, je ne peux pas m’identifier \u00e0 ces femmes au grain de peau parfait, aux cuisses certes rondes mais toniques et exemptes de cellulite, au ventre doux et soyeux sans vergetures.<\/p>\n

Mon corps \u00e0 moi, il a v\u00e9cu des phases de prise et perte de poids extr\u00eames, deux op\u00e9rations en chirurgie reconstructrice et une grossesse. C’est difficile de s’assumer quand les mod\u00e8les de \u00ab\u00a0body positivism\u00a0\u00bb qu’on nous pr\u00e9sente sont parfaites.<\/p>\n

Alors j’ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de vous pr\u00e9senter des oeuvres de photographes qui travaillent avec des corps, tous les corps.<\/p>\n

Parce que la repr\u00e9sentation est la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape vers l’acceptation : je ne suis pas seule \u00e0 \u00eatre marqu\u00e9e, vous non plus.<\/p>\n

I have rolled my eyes at the cliche of maternity photos \u2014 but, I must admit, I have also longed for the opportunity to have them taken. I\u2019ve viewed that kind of photoshoot as a cultural rite of passage; the opportunity to celebrate a turning point and its anticipation.<\/p>\n

The trouble is, I struggled to imagine my own maternity photos when I couldn\u2019t find any examples of them with a body like mine.<\/p>\n

Seeking subjects whose lived experiences exist within the complex intersections of gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, sexuality, socioeconomic class, and geographic location, they traveled from coast to coast, to big cities and small towns, documenting the life stories of this important but largely underrepresented group of older adults. The featured individuals share a wide variety of life narratives spanning the last ninety years, offering an important historical record of transgender experience and activism in the United States.
